Elephants!

This was an easy but fun one...
I read:
"Elephants Can't Dance" by Mo Willems
"When Elephant Walks" by Keiko Kasza
"Elmer" by David Mckee (This one is a little longer, and it would have worked better for older ones.)

Each child was given an elephant outline with the nose already cut out of it.  They colored it, cut it out and put in a party favor as the nose.  Cute!

pigs and mud story time

This was a fun one, but I think the kids thought they were being set up...
"You want us to put our fingers in the pudding?!
And we won't get into trouble for smearing it all over the picture?"

They were all hesitant at first, but then they really got into it!

I don't normally give snacks at story time, but this one HAD to have the pudding.  Some were very conservative with the pudding on the paper so they could eat the rest.  The ones that only used a little bit were able to dry enough to take home.  The super messy ones stayed with me, but everyone took home pig coloring pages.  Coloring pages are also not something I normally do, but I wanted them to walk out the door with something in their hands.  That way, when they color it later, they think about the fun we had at the library.
We normally have so many more at story time, but since this was so messy, I was secretly glad that there were only a few.

Just a few updates...

There has not been an extra moment these last few months.  Between switching branches, job title/duties and school, there are few moments of down time.  Here is what I have been up to at work:

Flowers theme story time

 Matilda

Pete the Cat is always a hit.  This is a flannelboard "pin the tail on the donkey" type game.

The story time theme was dragons and I had a pretty difficult craft since the group was supposed to be older.  Instead, a lot of younger ones showed up, so I had to quickly come up with this mask.

Fish/fishing story time theme

We made hand print crabs and all of the books were about types of crabs.
