February 2015 Displays

And this is the contest for teens this month.  I have had more issues with this than anything I have ever done in the library.  Adults were upset because they couldn't participate.  Children were upset and screaming at their parents because they couldn't eat them.  Someone even STOLE 13 of them.  This is NOT how I saw this unfolding.

And more for the teens...make and take valentines.
Sadly, the stickers and pre-made cards - all of them - were stolen.

I also made a new Graphic Novels sign.
If you look closely, you can see the letters are made from discarded graphic novel pages.

And for Black History Month...

We all created "WeeMee" characters and I decorated them with colored papers.  They look fun and the books seem to be moving.  YAY for promoting the collection!

December & January

This was in the children's area.  We had fun doing this and got lots of compliments!

The display case was my collection of red, white and blue snowmen.

Displays update

The obligatory Summertime display

We have very few teen biographies, so on one hand, I don't want these to circulate or the display will be bare, on the other hand that would defeat the purpose of promoting the collection.

These Legos have been a real hit.  I was worried that people would touch them (they are very delicate) but people behaved themselves and they stayed intact.  They are moving to Central next.

Some of the recent storytime crafts.  They really dress up the bare walls and serve as a great way to promote storytime.

Getting behind on posting displays

The children's area is showing signs of Spring.

As part of the reading program, teens are encouraged to put sticky notes on books before they return them so others can see what they thought.  Only I have been participating in this activity so far.

January 2014 Displays

Barbara Park, author of the wildly popular Junie B. Jones series died a few months ago, so I thought it appropriate to do a tribute.  The photo in the center is the author surrounded by facts about her.  Not sure how many folks read the facts, but the books moved like crazy.

Obligatory March MLK display - I printed out one of his speeches (which someone actually asked for a copy of) and the books were all connected by multi-colored people cutouts holding hands.

It was definitely time to change out Amelia Bedelia.
Goal:  Promote the library collection...Only a couple of books were left in the display case!
YAY!  Mission accomplished!

Some displays...Fall 2013

  Banned Book Week

Today is a great day to learn something new.

And as a bonus, an easy fall craft.

Did you know....

...that November is National Drum Month?

Me, either, but we are making shaker drums at storytime.

For the dogs

Though I am not actually doing the storytimes at this branch, I am assisting with crafts.  Here is the one that will be used with the Dogs & Cats theme.

Cups are attached with brads so the heads move.

Other supplies needed:
Glue sticks
Markers/crayons - for whiskers & feet
Dog and/or cat ears
Tongues
Arms
Googlie eyes - I used marker only to save on supplies
Pom-pom nose
Fish for cats, bones for dogs

The cups were a bit difficult to fasten together, so parent or volunteer help would be beneficial ahead of time.  I smashed the mouth a bit so it wasn't just round.

I don't get to see the kids' final projects, but I'd bet they are cute!
